Rudel says "No" Lonn says "Hear what?" Surra says "jack, what happened?" Rudel says "I can't believe everyone's hearing is so bad!" Abigail Honor says "Be on guard, everyone! Battle formation, now!" Red Jack did not stop upon encountering Surra, but instead kept going past her Red Jack is wailing in what seems to be some form of scaredy-ness Abigail Honor says "Okutari, stand by on missiles! Rudel, ready your blade! Uh, you, new guy, hit someone with your hammer!" Rudel heads on north, since he saw Surra go that way. Red Jack doesn't stop running until he reaches the entry cave, even Kevin stands in front of the kids, glaive at the ready. Abigail Honor says "Or your glaive!" Abigail Honor says "That works too!" Surra will keep on this way, until she reaches the main room. Rudel has not unreadied his blade! RanDM says "Jack comes barreling through from that west corridor. He is running very awkwardly as if badly hurt." Okutari nervously nocks an arrow, raises his bow Red Jack flops onto one of the mattresses RanDM says "Shortly thereafter Surra will enter as well, backing carefully down the corridor." Red Jack says "Ow ow ow ow" Lonn takes a look back at Kevin and the children before leaving the east cave, javelin in hand. Red Jack clutches his chest. Rudel looks at Surra Abigail Honor sees Jack hurt and runs toward him, "Lonn, Kevin, guard the children!" But of course Lonn is gone. Kevin says "I got 'em" Surra stands at the corridor entrance, facing north toward the source of Jack's terror. "Jack. Now. What happened. Red Jack says "Monster. Darkness." Rudel joins Surra at the corridor entrance. Is it lit, by the way? Red Jack gasps. [Game] Abigail Honor says "is Jack hurt, obviously?" [Game] Red Jack says "yes" RanDM says "It is not, Rudel." [Game] RanDM says "Jack has several broken ribs and is pretty bloodied." She presses her holy symbol to his chest. [Game] Red Jack says "if I am not I will FAKE it" Surra says "Only thing I saw was a whole lot of dark." Red Jack says "Yes, it made the room dark!" Red Jack says "My torch is in that darkness, and it lit up nothing!" [Game] RanDM says "Jack no longer has broken ribs." Red Jack says "okay, Lonn's torch, but still!" Red Jack prods his ribs, smiles at Abigail. "Thanks, and I mean that!" Red Jack sits up. Abigail Honor 's holy symbol glows and Jack's ribs knit themselves back together. Surra says "Ok, so maybe we don't stay the night here." Red Jack says "It looked like a.. um." Rudel lights one of his torches from the ones in the main cave, and peers into the darkness. Lonn says "I really don't like being underground." Red Jack thinks. "Like something trying very poorly to pretend to be part of the ceiling. Okutari begins chanting an ode, an ode to bravery and courage against things in dark places! His voice quavers at first, but gradually gains strength. [Game] Abigail Honor says "that CLW used to be a Bless" [OOC] RanDM says "Actually, it was a pretty good try. :)" [Game] RanDM says "noted" [Game] Surra says "DO I know anything about such a creature, DM?" Red Jack says "It somehow made the room dark, then lept at me." [Game] RanDM says "Definitely not." Surra looks up at the cave roof, reflexively. "The ceiling? Lonn says "Sister, why don't you get back with the kids and send up Southriver with his long pointy stick." Red Jack says "Yeah, it was pretending to be one of those pointy spike things." Red Jack says "Oh, uh, before you go charging after it." Red Jack says "I looked around first. It doesn't look like the bandits ever went that deep into the caves." Abigail Honor blinks at Lonn. "You left him -alone- with the -children??-" She glares at Lonn, turns, and goes back to review Southriver. Red Jack says "No footprints, no signs of people." Surra does not look inclined to go charging. Abigail Honor er relieve Red Jack says "Course, maybe it ATE all the people!" Abigail Honor is pleased to find that Kevin has not slaughtered the children in her absense. Okutari continues his chant, and as you listen, you begin to feel more heartened yourselves. Kevin looks at Lonn, then briefly at Abigail. "You want me to go take a poke?" Surra says "That's a good song, Oku." Rudel says "If the creature was happy to stay there while the bandits were here, perhaps it will stay there over night while we rest." Lonn says "Well, no, but if it gets dark in here, jab that thing at the ceiling." Red Jack gets up off the filthy bed. Abigail Honor points Kevin up with Lonn. "I am assigning you to assist Lonn. Listen to his commands as if they were mine." Red Jack says "If it gets dark - DUCK" Kevin looks at Abigail for a long second. "That should be easy enough." [OOC] RanDM quacks Surra says "I wonder how fast it moved." Red Jack says "I don't think it had legs" [OOC] Abigail Honor says "Then how did it smell?" Surra says "So how did it attack you, then?" [OOC] Abigail Honor says "wait, wrong joke" [OOC] RanDM says "awful!" [OOC] RanDM says "er yeah" Red Jack says "Like I said, I think it lept at me from above" Surra says "Maybe it can't leave that room, then." Red Jack says "It was overhead, everything went dark, I heard a wooosh and something hit me hard in the chest." Red Jack says "It might not even have been that thing!" Kevin says "I'm going to go take a look." [OOC] RanDM notes that Abigail and others can confirm that he's always the guy who wusses out and logs off, and in that vein, he's not TOO much longer for the world. Abigail Honor says "Wait, Southriver, Lonn will go with you." Red Jack starts changing the cover on his stick-man while he talks - it appears the stick is more like a very solid metal mace beneath. [OOC] Kevin says "That's fine, I have a 9am EST meeting." Red Jack puts the paladin-head back on. "Let's go kill it!" Kevin looks at Lonn with one eyebrow raised. Lonn says "Oh, yeah, great. Just a second." He stashes his javelin and draws his sword. "Don't think I'll be lobbing anything at it."" Kevin says "You want a shield?" Rudel shrugs off his pack, and begins to make himself comfortable. Abigail Honor says "Rudel, we need you to be our last line of defense. If anything gets past Lonn and Kevin, you will have to kill it." Lonn waves his left arm around. "What does this look like to you?" [OOC] RanDM says "Okay, who's going, what's their light source, and how long do you dick around first (counting from when Jack turned up)?" Abigail Honor hands her buckler to the girl. "If something attacks, you can use this to defend yourself." Surra will not stay in the room with Abagail and the thankless children. But she will stand at the mouth of jack's tunnel. Lonn mutters, "It's a long list," and stamps along behind. Red Jack will even lead people back to the room, carefully. Surra stays with Rudel, even. Kevin says "That's, uh, pretty dark, yeah." Abigail Honor waits for them to return, nervously. "I have a bad feeling about this." Red Jack says "Ooo, that's the darkness." Red Jack stops. Lonn looks at Kevin. "You going to poke it with that?" Kevin keeps going, glaive out. Kevin says "Yup." Rudel waits for them to return, grimly, and on guard. Red Jack lets Kevin step in front of him. Red Jack follows immediately, with torch. [Game] Lonn says "How narrow is this corridor, and how high is the ceiling?" Abigail Honor goes over to Rudel. "How fare you after the last fight?" Red Jack says "It should widen out a few feet into the darkness." Surra frowns as Abigail approaches. [Game] RanDM says "The corridor's about 10' wide. The ceiling's about 15' up." Rudel says "This is all the blood of those 'goblins'! I was not wounded, sister." [OOC] Abigail Honor says "maybe rudel and i and surra will page each other to keep the spam down. :)" Red Jack says "Widen to oh, 20 or 30 feet across." Red Jack says "Hang on a sec." Red Jack says "Let me check something." [OOC] Okutari says "I ATTACK THE DARKNESS" Red Jack squats, and reaches one hand into the blackness along a wall. [OOC] RanDM rages against the dying of the light Lonn says "How tall does it get in there? Are we going to have to wait for it to fall on our heads to get a whack at it?" Kevin says "Did you say anything to it first? I could see how you might have enraged it." Abigail Honor nods to Rudel. "Heironeous has chosen to bless you today with a glorious victory. Tell me, do you follow the ways of the Triumphant Master as I do?" Red Jack says "Actually no, it's kind of dumb to talk when you're sneaking around." [Game] RanDM clarifies: the corridor begins to widen into a larger area just before the darkness begins. Red Jack rolls his eyes at Kevin. Red Jack says "Okay." Red Jack says "You can see how its starting to widen here?" Kevin says "Yeah." Red Jack says "It opens up really quickly into a big cave. Maybe twenty feet high." Rudel says "Err um yes of course" Red Jack says "Shaped kind of like a peanut." Kevin says "Okay." Red Jack says "it gets about 30' wide." Kevin says "Hey, what's your singer friend's name, he's pretty good." Lonn says "That's pretty big." Red Jack says "About oh, 20' in, it narrows again." Red Jack says "A little." Red Jack says "The monster was on the roof past that narrow part." Red Jack says "However, whatever whacked me did so on *this* side." Lonn says "That's Okutari. He's good with the singing." Red Jack says "So it might be right there. *points at the blackness*" Red Jack says "So, who gets to go in first?" Kevin says "I'll go. This was my stupid idea." Red Jack says "Excellent, lead on!" Abigail Honor smiles. "Excellent! However, many who claim to follow him have not truly accepted him in their hearts as their Personal General. Won't you let Heironeous take command of your life and grant you eternal battle against the forces of evil in the afterlife? If you would like that, I will help you pray to Heironeous." Red Jack prepares to follow. Kevin steps into the darkness, glaive held high and at the ready. Red Jack steps in after - and off to one side immediately. Lonn sucks in a deep breath, like a man going under water, and follows Kevin. Kevin says "Hey, Okutari, keep singing so we know the way out." Rudel says "Can we wait a little while for that sister? I'm trying to be ready in case a magical monster chases our companions back down the corridor." Surra amkes a rude noise and goes to guard the other entry into the room. Okutari keeps singing, and for now will stay here in case the darkness dissipates and he acquires a target [OOC] Red Jack says "no no, kevin decided not to drain the magical monster first" Abigail Honor says "Oh, you're right, that's an excellent point.
